The lip is carefully measured and the skin to be removed is marked. Local anaesthetic is then injected. The skin is removed at the join between the lip, nose and nostrils. Stitches are used to lift the muscle of the lip. This makes the repair stronger and reduces the chance of the scar stretching or moving down. Fine stitches are then placed in the skin, making sure of an accurate closure in the fold between the lip and nose.
Lip Lift Recovery and Aftercare
The lip will be numb for several hours and you should avoid hot food or drinks until the feeling has returned.
Ointment will be applied to the stitch line and you will be given ointment to take home. You should apply a smear of this to the stitches twice a day for 1 week. You should avoid blowing or picking your nose for 1 week. Stitches will be removed at 1 week.
Some swelling is expected and will settle. Once the stitches are removed the scar will be pink. It can be hidden with makeup, although hypoallergenic, non scented makeup should be used while the skin is delicate. Once healed the scar can be massaged with moisturiser twice a day. The pink colour will fade over 6 to 12 months.
It is possible to return to work and daily activities as soon as you are well healed.
